JetSMART and American Airlines Expand Strategic Alliance to Include AAdvantage Mile Redemptions
JetSMART and American Airlines announce the final phase of their integration: AAdvantage mile redemptions are now active across the ultra low-cost carrier’s entire South American network.
JetSMART and American Airlines have announced an expansion of their strategic alliance, allowing AAdvantage to redeem miles across the ultra low-cost carrier’s entire route network starting today. This marks a new phase in the partnership that began in 2023.
With this development, of American Airlines’ AAdvantage loyalty program can now use their miles to book both domestic and international flights operated by JetSMART in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay. This move represents one of the first full integrations of a global loyalty program with a ULCC (ultra low-cost carrier) in South America.
According to Estuardo Ortiz, founder and CEO of JetSMART, this milestone “represents a significant step forward in our mission to make SMART travel truly accessible across the region.” He added that integrating the AAdvantage program provides engers with more value and connectivity, as JetSMART continues building an efficient airline model across the continent.
The alliance began with codeshare flights between the U.S. and Chile in 2023, and later expanded to routes originating in Peru and Argentina. Since October 2024, AAdvantage have been able to earn miles on JetSMART flights. Now, with the launch of mileage redemption, the collaboration takes a further step.
Anmol Bhargava, Senior Vice President of Alliances at American Airlines, stated: “From the beginning of our partnership, our focus has been on delivering value to our customers. Today, we are proud to announce this new step that allows travelers to access South American destinations using AAdvantage miles, while continuing to enhance connectivity between North and South America.”
What Does This New Phase of the Alliance Mean?
How does mileage redemption work? AAdvantage can visit JetSMART’s website and redeem their miles to fly on any of the airline’s more than 80 routes. Redemptions start at just 700 miles per segment.
Since when have miles been earned on JetSMART flights? AAdvantage have been earning miles on JetSMART-operated flights since October 2024. Redemption is the newly activated feature.
What destinations are covered? JetSMART’s network includes domestic flights in Chile, Argentina, Peru, and Colombia, as well as international routes to Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
The combined American Airlines and JetSMART network is now one of the most extensive between North and South America, linking American’s global connectivity with JetSMART’s point-to-point reach in the region.
Víctor Mejía, Chief Commercial Officer at JetSMART, emphasized that the AAdvantage program “opens the door to unforgettable travel experiences.” He also expressed pride in JetSMART becoming the first ULCC in the region to fully integrate with a loyalty program of this caliber, offering engers “more rewards, more destinations, and more ways to travel SMART.”
